My vote is that you buy a 4 element Hy-Gain Yagi and
call it good. It will go together in minutes and it
will perform well for many years.

Yes it will cost about $110 but how much is your time
worth? Also the cost of supplies on each attempt to get
a working antenna will soon cost more then just buying
a commercial solution.

I never want to discourage anyone from building and learning
about antennas. The issue here is that the commercial
stuff is a good deal and it will WORK. This way you can
be spending your time operating on the bands not on the
antenna ;)
