[Rover] Icom vs. Yaesu question

Jacob, I have not used the Icom 706,although I have owned and used most
models produced except the 910 and 970 and used them with great pleasure and
success but seemed not to have an effective noise blanker which is not a
problem if you operate in a noise free environment. As you know this does
not happen in the Mobile as you are always driving into power line noise
etc. In my contest rover I use an FT-100 which is about 3 years old and has
been thru many contests and grid expeditions and has performed well for me
with no modifications. I also use another FT-100 in my other mobile and have
a FT-100d in the shack and use in the rover as a IF rig for 902 thru 10 ghz
transverters. If you use a rig long enough you will always find shortcomings
and things that you wish they made a little differently but over all I am
very pleased with the FT-100's and the noise blanker is among the most
effective of anything in this price range and class that I have used. I
really do not use the DSP on VHF,UHF. I also have a lot of faith in the
receiver although I do run preamps in the mobil.
