[RadioShack] sick scanner question

OK, I, not being a very "electronic" person, can say that one of the little electronic things (capacitors, diodes, inductors, etc.) has quit working. This electronic thing probably runs both the sound and the LCD screen. You might want to test it and just play around with it. See what happens.

right after Radio Shack came out with this line of scanners. Well just a few 
days ago the thing quit. It turns on and the like,but no noise from the

problem? I'm looking to get some ideas before peeking inside in hopes of
