Dave,
    There are relatively few repeaters on the 902MHz and 1240MHz ham bands.
If you are in or near a large city you can probably find some around.  I
have a current edition of the ARRL repeater directory so I can look up any
nearby listings if you will tell me where you are located.  It should not
require an exotic antenna if you are fairly close to the repeater.  If you
are further away, a good yagi (beam) antenna would be very helpful.
