Hi Brian, The RA17/C3 has a solid state rectifier, there is a plate covering
the hole where the tube socket is supposed to be.

version was the first type into America and was essentially the same as the
MKII.The C3 changed to silicon diodes and added a 75 Ohm termination to the
antenna circuit.
