[R-390] Soldering/Desoldering Phenolic Terminals

I totally agree on using solder wick. I’ve never damaged a terminal strip by using braid. You can get most of the solder off then start in wrapping the lead wire while still applying heat. You can even wiggle the lead around while the solder is still molten and create what’s basically a cold solder joint and and unwrap the lead from the “brittle” solder.

The hand held suckers have a recoil that can damage things. I will never use them on circuit boards ( not that the R 390 /A has any) because the recoil can rip traces and or pads off the board.

Of course the “cool kids” have vacuum desoldering stations, but I’ve never been one of those…….
