Hi Jerry,

Thanks for the bio…and sorry I haven’t replied before now. Have been driving the motorhome and while doing that I don’t fiddle with electronics.

Lot of interesting stuff..

Was quite interested when you mentioned the KWS-1.

I bought a KWS-1 from an Air Force officer who was shipping out. It was complete and came with spares. It didn’t work and I was all of 19 years old and had little electronics experience and no test equipment. It was a beautiful piece of equipment. I was still living at home in a 10x12 bedroom. Had to part with it a couple of years later to get married and move into a small apartment. Wish I still had it and the matching receiver to make up the gold dust twins.

Now days they are very expensive….

Think I traded mine for a National NC-183D and a couple pieces of Heathkit test gear. (1978)

Later traded the National for a Hallicrafters SX-101 mkIII….still have that.

I’m 66 and retired as an IT Analyst with a large electric utility in the SE US.

I do some occasional rag chewing and contesting. I have a Collins R-390 and two R-390A (Collins and a 1967 EAC), one of which I use almost nightly, but my favorite radios to get on the air are my 75S-4/KWS-1 and 75A-1/32V-2. Non-electronics fun time spent on the Trap or Pistol range, though my wife and I just started playing golf after spending 52 years avoiding it. I am a 74 yo research physician currently employed part-time by a small biotech as their Chief Medical Officer.
