[R-390] Manson Labs R-390A?

EugeneI have one version of these - basically an R390A modified by Manson Labs to accommodate precision external oscillators.  Mine was field modified and called an R-1247.
Operation of the R390A without the external oscillators is per normal R390A spec.  Attached is the info I have gathered over the years through the R390A forum.

Is this a well-known set of mods or a rarity? Anything about them that improves the R-390A? Or are they just some specialized use case.
