Hi Dave,

I agree that a capacitance meter is useless to find a leaky (or scintillating) SM cap due to the nature of the silver migration within.
It really takes a leakage test to find the defective ones.
What I am still questioning is: does it takes a DC voltage applied continuously to trigger the silver migration within, or can that happen to the ones that have a RF potential across, like the ones used in the IF transformers ??

For the record, does the bad one you found was in a R-390(A) or elsewhere ?
What was the conditions of use for this cap ?
DC across or just RF ?
If it was in a R-390(A) it was C???.
