The proof will be in eating the pudding. Hope Larry has success and reports
the results. Given Larry has the correct stage in the IF, the silver mica
caps are the easiest to replace. For those that keep a close eye on the
performance of these receivers, it isn't uncommon to find a bad silver mica
due to silver migration.

For Larry's knowledge and others, my Amelco serial #2479 contract date 62 is
an excellent example of cost cutting. Several silver micas have been
replaced, every resistor in the AF section was way out of tolerance.....long
list of old parts that needed replaced. Considering its manufacture date,
can't complain too much.

This is a prime example of today's trend in communications. Microprocessors,
SMT, computers, etc., are replacing tubes & passive components. As long as
possible I'll put the best into my R390/A's and hope for a few more years of
enjoyment while parts still can be found.

Regards,
Craig

Well folks, are you sure the coil is good? I think it is pretty rare for bad
mica caps. 220pf caps are more common, do you think they would work? You may
be able to get the 200 pf caps direct out of China. Of course, if you have
already tested the caps and they are bad, disregard this message [Larry?}
Russ.
