[R-390] knobs

Roy, you are correct that knob is different. That knob fits a 5/16" shaft 
with a flat on two opposing sides. I'm looking at mine right now.

It is worth noting that the main tuning knob on the R-389 (VLF receiver) is 
NOT the same as on other R-3xx receivers.

It contains a clutch to avoid stripping the mechanism (FIFTY turn VFO) in 
the hands of over-eager operators.

The shaft diameter *may* be different, I don’t remember.
