Yo Dudes! (I'm in SO CA now)
Several years ago I began a project on re-manning mysix R390A’s. Then the thought came “well why don’t I make tribute R 725’s?” So I got the R390 IF modules. Then RayOsterwald came out with his Competition Grade R-390A article which would havemade a R725 even better,
So this is the fabulous receiver that so far, never was.
To make a very long story short: circumstanceschanged (a curse of old age) and I’m selling DIY upgrade kits to make amarriage of the two. Also in the plan was to replace the audio output with anupgraded Kleonimous (sp) hifi P-P class A amplifier using 6AQ5’s. I was also going to move the two filterchokes to the back of the power transformer or replace them with Dynacoreproduction chokes as massive Electrolytic caps are cheap, small and light. The vacated space from the chokes would be used for a MOSFET regulated PS andsmall computer fan.
So this is the most fabulous R-390A that hasn’tbeen made, yet.
I’m assembling a kit that contains the following:
A complete R390. Not working as I took the PS and audio supply out as well as all thetubes. IF filters believed to be OK. Allthe original tubes are included including the ballast. Crappy bad plug in capsincluded.
1. A Corcom 3A1 power input connector and a CL- 90varistor.
2. Acomplete R390 IF module, less tube, condition unknown. 19 IERC tube shields.
3. 55 new .01 ceramic caps. Either 1 or 2 KV ratedas I have both to replace all the .005 caps in
thereceiver.
4. Two OEM Nichicon 120uF 350V (or equiiv) caps and 8ea 1N004diodes.
5. One IRF840MOSFET for the electronic regulator circuit.
6. A complete NOS tube set for the Osterwaldconversion.
7. A HiFiP-P output transformer, 2 6AQ5/9005, a6DJ8 tube and 8 .01/400v Orange Drops or
.047/600V film caps for the audio.
8. Two 2’ x 4’ printed schematics showing all themods.
9. A copy of my edited copy of Ray Osterwald’sCompetition Grade Receiver article
10. PDF copies of all related published mods.
Price $550 plus shipping in two boxes from zip92220.
