[R-390] The radio machine, getting bit by the bug

When I was 7 or 8, I liked to take things apart (watches, clocks, radios, etc.) and try to put them back together.  Sometimes I was even successful.  A couple years later a radio showed up from a nice relative.  The broadcast band worked, but the shortwave bands were dead.  I asked my Mom if I could go to the library and get a book on radios and we did.  After a few months I finally got it to work.  I was hooked.  Then a couple more radios showed up - what fun.  By the time I went into the service 8 years later, I had a pretty good understanding of TV, receivers and transmitters, but I learned a lot in that 6 month school.  It covered receivers, transmitters, antennas, radar, sonar, and loran.  I'm still having fun.
Regards, Larry
