Flush with water, Cecil.  I've yet to have any significant lawn damage and
I do my work in the same area each time.  The soil here is rocky, in the
foothills of the Ouachita Mountains, with high mineral content so my grass
probably welcomes a good application of sodium bicarbonate.

You might speed up the decomposition by sprinkling your soda with vinegar.
