[R-390] The Home Depot Issue

Both Home Depot & Lowes have dropped the 10% to "Veterans", except on
July 4th, Veterans Day & Memorial Day. BUT let me define "Veterans" as
they do. Active duty, Reserves and any one that has served BUT not
enough for retirement. I can only speak for my experience with Lowes,
but they still give the 10% to Retired Military, Disabled Vets and Vets
with a current VA Hospital ID card. Each check out has a laminated copy
of what ID cards they accept. Those of us that have served but not
retired have to wait for the 3 holidays listed. The explanation that I
got (of the record) was that to many of our fellow Vets were coming in
and buying big ticket items for our friends, family & neighbors. They
felt there was no way in controlling this. Hence the structure we have
now. Same thing happened to the 10% discount that Lowes would give to
everyone that moved into a community. Used to be that when you got your
change of address packet from the USPS there was a 10% coupon in it and
you just went to the store & used it. (This information I got from my
neighbor that works the counter at USPS) "JERKS" were coming in and
getting 10 or 15 "Change of Address" packets and selling the coupons on
EPay & Craigs list. NOW , when you get the change of address packet, the
Lowes 10% coupon requires you to go on-line to register & Lowes sends a
coupon via email. Again, all it takes is a few "Butt Plugs" to ruin it
for all of us.

So what I do now, is if I can plan ahead for any big purchases I wait
for the next holiday and make my purchase then.
