[R-390] O.T. Is there an alternative to PayPal?

Hi group, 

Firstly my apologies for the off-topic post but curiosity (and recent experience) has me wondering about this. 

I won't go into details but a few days ago I made an eBay purchase...it went well, payment was made then Paypal decided to limit my account and investigate. Consequently they reversed payment. The seller relisted and PayPal have my money and insisting on me sending photo I.D. to restore my account. 

So...when this is finally sorted I will be shutting down my PayPal account and will never use them again. 

The thing is...what are the alternatives? For those of us that want to buy and sell radio gear that is. All my radio stuff I've either bought off eBay and used PayPal, or I've bought privately and paid via PayPal. One exception is when  the seller insisted on western union. It seems though that as far as eBay goes, you generally pay via PayPal. 

Are the days of paying directly into someone's bank or sending them a check over? I recently moved to Australia so doing a road trip and paying cash isn't an option (3/4 of what I have has come from the U.S. the rest from Europe). 

Are there any thoughts/opinions/ideas on this?
