Hi folks,
I have a sticking Carrier Meter on my Stewart Warner R-390A and I was wondering if there is a safe way to fix them. I read an account online where someone had opened one up and relaxed the screw for the meter movement about 1/4 turn (if memory serves). That cured the problem and meter was as good as new...but really, how safe is this?
I think I already know the answer but just wanted to check with you guys first. I'd rather buy one than open one up if my health is going to be at risk.
On that note...does anyone have one spare they'd like some $$$ for? (silly question I know...hihi!!)
BTW I am just about to start rebuilding my RF deck and it's in a pretty sorry state...the grease has gone hard causing most of the roller bearings to freeze and consequentially grooves have been worn into them. In the back of my mind I'm a little concerned this may have mis-shapen the cams as I have no idea how long it's been like this. Also I am in need of the three slugs for the 2.0 to 4.0 MC transformers (Z203, Z203 & T203).
Also, I already know there is a problem in the Xtal oscillator deck...voltage at E-402 is only -1.8v as opposed to the -4 to -11 as stated in the Y2K-R2 manual.
The radio is in working condition but performance is very poor, so far I've rebuilt the Audio and the IF decks. Next is the RF deck (and to find that problem in the Xtal Osc deck) and I will be starting this in a couple of weeks as soon as time allows. So you'll probably see me put a call out for a small number of parts here and there if that is OK.
Kind regards,
Ken
