[R-390] Latest update on the EAC R-390A

As I stated before, I think I cooked my crystal calibrator crystal
plug-in unit whilst following the alignment procedures laid down in
the Y2K R-390A manual. The instructions said to inject a signal into
E210. and zero beat the signal by rocking the sig gen in. I was unable
to hear any signal to zero beat and afterwords my Crystal calibrator
wandered and sounded garbled.

I switched out the plug-in crystal unit and the problem was solved.

Thinking I may have done something wrong in the procedure, I carefully
read the procedure and repeated the procedure. I still could hear no
signal to zero beat to. I didn't increase the sig gen gain this time
and discontinued the procedure.

After this my crystal calibrator seems to work, but I get a chirp as I
switch to CAL. I hear this chirp with the BFO in either on or off
position.

I pulled the RF deck and replaced all 3 paper caps with orange drops.
I tested the the caps I removed and they were not leaky. Everything
under the RF deck looks just like new. No burnt parts or any other
signs of damage. I tested all the tubes on the RF deck with my Hickok
533 tube tester and all the tubes test OK (one of the 5814's is a
little weak, but no shorts).

I'm a little reluctant to re-install the RF deck right away. I would
hate to have to pull it again & I really haven't fixed anything so I
probably would have to do so.

Does any of this sound familiar?

Anything else I should do while the RF deck is out?
