Trick developed while overhauling an SX-88, which has two gear trains
loaded with anti-backlash gear sets, and very little room to get
things together.
Pass a length of dental floss through one or two of the middle turns
of the small spring (or in the case above, through the teensy hole in
the snap ring if it has them, or around the middle of the snap ring).
Fasten the ends of the dental floss to the radio or some moderately
heavy thing on the bench: the string can be as long as needed for this.
After assembly is complete, you can pull the dental floss out of the
spring easily, not so sure about the snap rings but the thinnest kind
of floss might work best.
