Both I and other posters have direct experience with the Radio Shack 
transformers.  In any case, "low efficiency" for such a transformer 
due to the manufacturer's choice of core material would not be so low 
as to be noticeable by ear, particularly at the low audio power level 
delivered by a 390A relative to the 10 W rating of the 
transformer.  Which (again) would be known by anyone who knows 
anything about how transformers work.  Obviously, some do not.
