[R-390] Veterans Day

I suppose many had different experiences.

I made two trips from Vietnam, fall of 1970 and
June 1971, both trips via San Francisco to Atlanta
to Augusta, and either I was so dead tired I didn't notice,
or I was not spat upon.

As Todd has pointed out, everyone in the armed forces
serves a useful purpose in the grand scheme of things.
Not everyone can be a combat troop, nor should everyone
be humping a rifle. If it isn't for the supply troops and the
transportation troops, only the basic load of ammunition
makes it to the field. Someone has to make sure ammo
is delivered to the area of operations and then get it out
to the field where it is to be used.

As a fixed station communicator during my 22 months in
Vietnam, I was lucky, in a sense, to be shielded from
what a lot of people saw during those years. My main
military and vet support was with other Reservists, many
of whom did serve in Vietnam and that camaraderie
was valuable - Reserve service after my active duty time.

I knew only one person whose name is on the wall, that is,
I only knew one personally, a guy from my hometown, a year
or two behind me in school. I know there were others listed
with the same home town, but I did not know them.
