Toying around I asked the seller if these tubes had harmonics and how they
tested on his Hickok. The response was:

"these tested goot. Thank you

I would be afraid to plug those tubes into a socket unless it had oxygen
free wiring.

I believe there were 4 field change orders.
There was also a manual that Collins Radio produced an Instruction

ages. This was renamed TM11-856. It contains the three manuals

As timing would have it right now I am working on an R-390 and need
o know if anyone has the Field Change Orders. Specifically I need
ome information contained in both C1 and C3. There is a "Zero
djustment" caution that I would like to see. I am just about to
emove the front panel and there is a handwritten notation in my
M11-5820-357-35 that I should see these items.
If anyone has C1 and/or C3 would you be so kind as to post these
autions. I haven't played much with these radios for about 13 years
nd I don't want to damage anything by virtue of forgetfulness.

  Hello,
I recall reading some comments about the best, most updated and most
usable
  ersion(s) of the R390-A
anuals on the list . Which one(s)? Available as internet downloads? --
how
  any MB?
'm thinking in terms of alignment and possible future repairs, componenent

  eplacements, AND possible retroing
f the AGC and detector system. I know I'd better replace the cap. leading
to
  he mechanical filters.
I have no real problems with my R-390A at the moment -- did retro the
audio
tage two years ago. Last owner changed
he AGC system and added product detection - seems to function quite well,
but I
  now many on this list
ren't too happy about mods -- I'm not a purist, but do like to keep my
gear as
  riginal as possible.
(I don't want to get involved in the debate about pure originality vs.
mods,
  tc. -- if you please.)
This is my 2nd R-390A. My first unit was original, in unmodified condition
-
xcept for my replacing the tube rectifiers
ith diodes and a series dropping resistor + utilizing the 12 vac tap when
my
allast tube gave up the ghost.
hanges were done in a way that allowed rapid retroing -- with regard to
  ollector value.

do have the following partially complete manuals as photo copies, i.e.
TM 11-
  56A & TM 11- 5820-358-10 & 35.
The op. manual, .... 358-10 is complete).
My present R-390A: Teledyne Systems CORP
                                                 35064-PC-62
(Serial number is in the high 3000's)
  Thanks in advance.

s luck would have it the first thing I consulted the other day in my
955 TM11-856 before starting a complete re-alignment, (or should that
e alinement?) was the section on aligning the 455 Kc/s crystal filter
nd this is complete nonsense in that edition.
Does the later TM 11-5820-357-35 from 1962 have a valid section for this

Hello Meir - actually trying to work a trade with a fellow in the UK
ight now. The deal itself is no problem, I suspect the shipping will
ill it if anything does, since there is no more surface shipping
side from containers. The radio itself is 100 lbs before packing, as
ou know. Was over at JP's place for dinner Saturday night and got to
widdle the knobs on his B40D. *drool* It gives you that nice, warm

True, but then again - not much from that time frame can hold a candle
o the R-390 or A for overall performance and utility. IIRC, the B40
s also single conversion. It's certainly no hot rod. But as you say,
hey have their own look and attraction. Reminds me of an Art Deco sky
craper design, and that spiral staircase band-in-us dial is amazing.
If we can swing the deal, it will be my in-house, stand-alone
eceiver. The 390 will be paired up with the 21E once it's
eassembled, and the A is already keeping the T-368 company.
