[R-390] Suggestions for SSB adapter for R-392?

That's also an interesting descussion...what was the first radio that you
owned that got you started in SW listening.

Mine was an Allied Radio Shack P-Box Shortwave receiver kit. Came in a
plastic box that served as the perf board type of chassis. Regen type radio
but it worked fairly well for a kit. Listened to HCJB, Voice of Russia and
many of the other power house stations of the time.

Just for the record, my first SW radio was a Knight-kit Space Spanner and
then a BRAND NEW Hallicrafters S-107 in 1962 (wow) and a plethora of other
ones through the years. I can tune SSB with the BFO vs gain control also
but it is still a compromise method, otherwise they wouldn't have produced
the CV-591 and all its variants.

I was looking for a modern day CV-591 or something that does the same
function and does a pretty good job, doesn't have to be "the same as a 591".
Didn't mean to stir the pot, just figured some of you folks might have
already "done it' or might have some hands on experience with units like the
Sherwood Engineering SE-3 MK IV (or others).

Tisha, Thanks for your suggestion. I'll check into it and I welcome any
other equipment suggestions.

Since my first "real" receiver as a novice (back in 1962 - uh,oh, I'm dating
myself here) was an HQ129x, I learned to tune in USB/LSB with the manual RF
gain control and the BFO. The R390A works the same - no problem. However
an outboard adapter does make it easier ( I use an Icom R70 connected to the
IF out jack that's tuned to the IF freq. ).

Group,

Is it "just" me, or are there others that really DON'T have a problem
with USB/LSB/ISB with EITHER the R-390A or SP-600?

I regularly listen to Military ISB with either of them. USB/LSB isn't
an effort either.

All my antennas are oriented East - West in layout.

I can hear just about anything I want.
