[R-390] New (to me) R-390A Can't Tune SSB

Dear All,

Many thanks for all the detailed advice and yes I know the R-390A is not
desinged for SSB, I have another 390A with a CV-591 for comparisons
hihi.

It was a bad V505 I guess knocked from shipping this 90lb beast. I
thought the BFO was working but I didn't do any systematic testing
(shame on me) but now that I replaced it with another 5749, the BFO
works like a charm. I guess I should start stocking up on a tube
replacement set and read the Y2K manual a few times.

Tune WWV and see if the BFO will zero beat...may just be way off
frequency.

Cecil..
