One of the most interesting aspects of all US targeting plans for
Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Russia, and China was the conspicuous
absence of planning, let alone acknowledgment of, any massive
radioactive clouds from US weapons detonations that would drift
eastward and in approximately six to eight days, begin passing over
the western US and Canada and continue to move eastward, enveloping
North America.

That is one of the events described in "On the Beach" by Neville
Shute. All
the world has died of radiation poisoning except those in Australia and
New Zealand. A morse signal is heard and a military expedition is
sent to
the now deserted United States to find a window blowing in the wind is
keying a transmitter.
Geez you guys are morbid today.
