Heard that during Desert Storm the solid state receivers that they were
using were not holding up.  Seems the fine blowing sand was generating
static electricity and blowing the front ends.  Uncle went to the big
warehouse and unpacked a bunch of 390a receivers, had nice cases made and
sent to the desert and they worked fine.  Before they were all shipped the
war was over and Mac in Texas bought a bunch of the cases and sold them to
us.  I have one from him and my wife thought it was so cool I am allowed to
have the 390a in the living room!!

Some great conversation on here.  I'm just curious, What happens during 
an EMP (elctrical magnetic pulse)
How would our old tube rigs fare as opposed to all the transistor based 
rigs.
