Jerry,
First: Welcome to the list. We are glad to have you. It's polite
and considerate to those who have slow internet connections to snip
out most or all of the message you are replying to, especially if you
get the list in digest forom. This happens to be more important on a
couple of lists where the moderator is blind and relies on speech-
making software to read the messages. I'm in the habit of including
just enough of the posted message to let folks who may not be
following the thread closely see what I'm talking about. This may
well be mostly because *I* often loose the thread and come in on
something in the middle of the discussion. Also, it can happen that
what I say doesn't make too much sense. heheh
The T-195's auto tune system sets the innards to a number of preset
frequencies. The mechanisms are built to do all sorts of coming and
going and reversals of motion, I suspect. My guess is that no real
harm will come to the thing if it's not managed well. (DO lubricate
the thing to avoid motor overload!)
The R-389 motor in question is meant to tune the radio across its
tuning range quickly since it can be MANY MANY turns of the manual
knob to do the job by hand. The mechanism CAN, and apparently has,
smashed the innards of the PTO in many cases. It's quite a different
system.
