If this guy wasn't a temporary, Bill, I would. But he'll be gone at the end
of the week and I've taken care of other things to be sure he's not where he
can hurt himself or anyone else. Right now my boss doesn't need the extra
aggravation of the postal form 1767 and the headaches that it brings with
it. This is a case of the cure would be worse than the ailment.

Too bad more people can't get their first job in an explosives plant. As an
amateur fireworks maker in my formative years, I learned some respect for
explosives. My first job was in a blasting cap plant. I paid close attention
to the safety instruction, both formal and on the job.

Kim, if you've got a jerk like that, write up something that says he was
advised of safe procedures, but rejected the advice. The damage he does to
himself and to the lives and property of others is now his fault. Get him to
sign it in as solemn a manner as possible. You might even have a story about
how Sam Hall did similar things and wound up broke and in jail. The guy must
have some respect for the law. If not, you have a potential case of "going
postal." He should find work elsewhere.

I couldn't agree more. I work for the USPS in maintenance and we are
required to do just that. When I saw Tisha's original post I was thinking
about a new hire that was working in the shop earlier last week that was
doing something that on the surface appeared OK, but that was because he
wasn't thinking about what he was doing. When informed that he shouldn't be
doing that or at least wear his safety gear if he insisted, I was told to
mind my own business in no uncertain terms. Therein lies the root cause of
the problem.
