Yes...also heard it called 'painting with light'.

Remember watching Frank, an elderly photographer using an ancient large 
frame wooden camera, photographing radio equipment for a popular amateur 
radio magazine and handbook. He shot pictures in a darkened room with the 
shutter left open using a portable flood light to 'paint the picture'. Was 
amazed the first time I saw him walk between the camera's open shutter and 
the item being photographed - to get to the other side of the item and 
illuminate it from yet another angle.
