[R-390] R-392 Cap Question

Tom,

Old large electrolytic caps are known to not like long vacations and are 
known to often fail when placed back in service. Whole bunch of pages on the 
Internet about feeding and caring for old electrolytic caps.

>From your R392 perspective the only other caps that may cause grief are the 
1950 era molded plastic caps. You may want to look through your R392 and see if 
it has any of these caps in it. If so you likely should replace them.  You 
can do a search on R390 and black plastic caps and find some pictures of the 
offending items.

The caps just have not withstood the test of time over the last 50 years. If 
the receiver has these caps and spent a winter without heat, these caps are 
more likely to have failed.

Bad caps in R-392's are not more problematic than in any other receiver of 
equal age.

Haveing one cap fail is no reason to start a witch hunt.
