Apparently the first deal was cancelled for some reason.  The seller 
left that buyer positive feedback on March 15 -- apparently they came 
to some after-deal terms that put the radio back in the seller's 
hands.  You could try contacting the first buyer to see why he didn't 
keep it.  Disclaimer -- I don't know either of these people.

All that said, if you are going to get an R8/A/B, the selectable 
sideband synchronous AM mode in the R8B is well worth the extra money 
over the other two if you do any significant AM listening, either 
broadcast or ham, and the extra IF and mixer headroom is very handy, 
too.  If I am ever down to just one radio, it will be one of my R8Bs.

In my view, the previous sale price -- $677 -- is more than an R8 is 
worth.  That's more like R8A money.  Even the current high bid of 
$500 is more than I'd pay for an R8.  But then eBay does sometimes 
get folks to overspend.
