[R-390] Y2K Reprinting

The stuff is in the R390 TM. It is not in the R390/A TM. We ask every year to get the paragraph
from the R390 TM inserted into the next printing of the R390/A TM.  Problem is that the TM was
never reprinted.

I’m so glad you asked.

I’ve been working on updating the Y2K manual on and off since 2001.  I have almost all of the
original chapters redone plus two additional chapters of Roger’s and others priceless
not-to-be-found-in-any book material.

The problems.  I use MS word for my original documents.  In other docs I offered some screamed
bloody murder that they needed RTF docs or PDF.  So as I’ve been working I’ve been saving in all
three formats.  BIG MISTAKE!!  RTF files get into 100 + megs where a MS doc is 15 meg or so.  It’s
the graphics folks.

Speaking of which, the original CD supplied to me had the graphics in an unusual format so I
couldn’t convert them easily for insertion or editing.  Then I was promised updated graphics over
two years ago which were never sent to me.

At least twice I posted on the list for help.  IIRC only two people offered to help.  One had
expertise in graphic files and sent me some updates for which I am extremely grateful.

The original material is copyrighted.  I’ve had numerous email exchanges with the original authors
about updating.  I can’t just pop off the Y3K  edition W/O their blessing.

I now have 1500+ Mbytes of files that are overwhelming me.

Having to take 18 months off to re-hab a house has delayed things more.

So to finally answer Roger’s question:  I am continuing collecting stuff for the additional
chapters form the reflector.  RTF files are out.  I am working on converting and re-organizing the
graphic files.  I will make MS word and PDF files to be posted and a CD post paid for $5.  There
will be both single files for the cable blessed and multiple small files for the modem cursed.

If there is enough interest I will print the manual on my laser printer.  Price and postage TBD.

As they say about electricians employed by city of Chicago "Many hands make light work".
