Friends,
Guess it's confession time for me as well....In fact, I had the 390, the SP600, a teleregister amp/mon/filter system, a TMC ssb unit, and a BC in a hugh mil rack beside my bed....it was there for a few years....and....as we cut down on space my wife "convinced" me I didn't need that hugh thing sittin' there....
I did spend many years in the old mil. practices I knew...sometimes going 'till near dawn on 80...pickin' up the early birds on the 3895-3920 Mhz areas....as well as 40, and even runnin' it to time for 20M...by which time my wife was ready to call the men in white coats...
I HAVE thinned down..(in radios...not bulk....) and now have removed the rack (which I still have...but don't ask for it...It weighs as much as the radios it housed...)...
Yes, I know the units mentioned, and in fact you can find probs with many, even the 515,,(with it's picky tuning knob that sticks...)..and as for dynamic range....too much said, I'm afraid...My reason for asking for a frog was the rel. simplicity/cost, and the fact that it is a unit for some reason, I have never had....Very easy to just enjoy, without all the power plays on the big boys...
When we do, in fact --win the lotto...(!!!???)..then I will look at the WJ's and Anritsu etc... et al... that I wonder about...always wanted but could not afford...and maybe start again...Remember on this list some are very wealthy..and some not...
I am not sorry for the changes...It has simplified things for us...tho' I will miss my SP600 and the NRD 515..AND MAYBE MOST...My R390 non A....(Yeah..I gave up the battle about the using of the term.."non A"...$%^&*....). Thanks to David for the rebuild of that radio several years back...Best of the 3XX series...hands down...It's in CA now...
I am a TRUE 390 list believer...just never in here anymore...but my heart is with you...!!
My Regards, Always...John
