Not replying direct, but close enough for Intelligence-Agency replies:

They "ALL" had to meet the same specifications, period! That said,
preference (not me, the majority) seems to prefer the 1967 EAC contract of which at
least 10, 517 were built. Being the latest and usually the cleanest, they seem
to be the most desireable. The "best" one I ever had was a 1962 Amelco which
was very sensitive. YMMV. The oldest are the Collins and Motorola's. Many had
over ambitious extra coats of mfp "varnish" and that made some of the wiring
brittle. Again, YMMV.

Hey,  Chris & All;

Sounds right to me. Hopefully,this thread is winding down. However, I have
learned a lot----and been somewhat enterainned at the same time!

Now I have a legitimate question;

I have been looking for an R-390A for last few months. Question; Apparently,
these fine receivers were manufactured by several (?) different companies.
>From those of you who have had experience with them, are receivers
manufactured by one particular company more desirable as a restoration
project than another? Or, put more simply, if one had a choice, which one
would you recommend? Please reply direct.

Many  thanks,

Harold
