Hi
Well since we are going to beat this to death. (Hey, it's the R390 list
- old habits die hard).
I started this one off with a less than perfect response to a question
about URM-25 signal generator repair. I responded with a more or less
generic (and not terribly well phrased) response. I also responded in
the context of this list. By that I mean that the URM-25 is just
another piece of test gear rather than an item to be treasured and
restored. I view TV-7 tube testers in the same light. Make them as
reliable as you can rather than as authentic as you can. And that's an
*opinion* rather than a fact. People have a variety of opinions ....
Dallas (rightly) pointed out that my phrasing was a bit off. A
re-reading my initial response to the question showed it certainly
sounded like rip and romp through the generator. He (a valid opinion)
suggested that the URM 25 was worth restoring. He's certainly far more
into URM 25's than I am. His view of them is different than mine.
All of the URM-25 stuff got the juices flowing and the temperature nice
and toasty long before we slid over to the fate of the same parts in an
R-390. Once we made that slide the frustration level got a bit higher
since I look at an R390 in a *very* different light than a URM-25.
Needless to say we all are getting older. I certainly have a temper
(and then some). Often it gets in the way. If it did so this time I
apologize to all involved.
Lets get back to radios and have some fun.
Enjoy!
