[R-390] Sweat Shops

I live in Reno, NV. H-O-T in the summer, (but it's a dry heat) and C-O-L-D in the winter.
The best thing that I ever did to improve temperature control was to sheet rock, then insulate the
ceiling. Next I cut into the heat duct for winter, and that holds the shop at 55 degrees... not too
bad.
Next I installed the biggest swamp cooler that I could find that would fit into a window. Swamp
coolers work very well in Reno because our humidity hovers around 20% ! After I installed the swamp
cooler and had it running for awhile I was disappointed that the output wasn't all that cool. Upon
investigation I found that due to the low humidity the pads where only about 50% wet so I added a
second pump and that solved the problem. On a 90+ day the temp out of the swamp cooler is in the
upper 70's.
In the summer the temp in the shop attic is 140+. In the winter it's in the low 40's. So
insulation is money well spent. Plus, I put in a pull down stair way so I have a lot of storage
area.
