This not the first time a list member's address was spoofed.

About a year ago, we had an issue of a list member's address being used 
to send a virus to various members.

I had captured ALL header info, passed it to Don and Al.  I also sent 
the specifics to ths FBI.

It doesn't take anything but a PC based SMTP agent (Internet mail 
program), some NASTY knowledge, AND one or two READILY available tools.

I've been in the computer biz for 17 years.  I've demonstrated this to 
investigators during a stretch in the Pentagon Email and Network control 
center.

I'm collecting headers right now to try and trace this to its source.

For Don and Al, STRONGLY suggest closing access to Email addresses in 
OPEN ACCESS archives!  This would REALLY reduce probabilities of 
additional occurrences.

It would restrict the possibilities to list members only.
