If the track is worn through, a friend who repairs guitar amps taught me a 
last ditch trick.  Use the graphite lube spray for car door locks.  His 
theory is the graphite fills in the little chuck holes in the resistance 
element.  I have tried it and it works on audio gear.  I've never tried it 
on a radio.
