Barry and Bruce,
I sent a double boxed scanner that I sold to a guy in Texas. It arrived
damaged and he sent it back to me for a claim. I refunded his money. The
original packing had a puncture hole in the top where something thin and
sharp pierced both boxes and caused some damage to the radio.
I got the runaround from UPS for weeks. Finally, an inspector showed up and
suggested that I return the radio for warranty repair. The guy either didn't
notice or didn't care that my wife heard this too, so she was my witness. I
called the big UPS office for Alabama and got a higher level type on the
phone. When I gave the inspector's name and said that I had a witness to the
suggested fraudulent warranty scam I got a pretty fast decision to pay for
repairs at an authorized dealer.
I got my RBL-5 from ebay. The guy wrapped in up into a great big ball of
thick foam pieces. This was put in a big box with lots of foam packing
around the radio-foam-ball so that it was tightly positioned. It was well
insulated with several more inches of foam pieces so tight they couldn't
shift or settle. This is the box that spent days being misrouted to
somewhere like Minnesota, back to the seller in California, then to Arizona,
and finally to me via the friendly folks at UPS. It arrived in good shape.
