Hi Everyone.
Some time ago a friend stopped by and dropped off some equipment that I just never got around to really looking at. Now that I’m planning on moving in a few months, it’s a good time to sort what’s lurking out in the workshop.
1. R-1051B/URR Ser A3116, Mfr: 06845 complete with sub-assemblies in all positions. This one I actually have some hope for. Pulled it out of the case and looked it over first. Nothing obviously burnt or smelly. Fuses good. Plugged in headphones. Powered it up on my variac. So far so good. Indicator lights work on the frequency dials, although they are not very bright. Static in headphones. Seems like it has potential so far. 5MHz out the BNC on the rear of the case shows 4,999,9 on my little counter.
The 10Mhz, and 1Mhz dials only intermittently rotate the drum in the RF Amp A2. If I rock the 0-9 knob back and forth and get it just right the drum will rotate, 360 degrees or more, seems to rotate freely enough, just is not indexing and stopping in the right place. Once or twice it did actually run from 2-9MHz, A2 to A9 position on the drum sequentially. But it only did that once. Dial indicator lights dim significantly when the MHz dials are rotated and the drive motor engages.
With the Mhz dials on 02, drum on A2 I hung a clip lead on the antenna N connector, loosely coupled it to a 2MHz modulated signal, no direct connection, and on AM CW USB have tone in the earphone on the USB Headphone jack. Tone in LSB also with phones in LSB headphone jack. Running it up to 2550 khz and using the three Kcs dials have tone also. Not sure if BFO works.
So, I could really use some advice on how to proceed from this initial assessment. I sure don’t want to disassemble anything unnecessarily. But I think it would be kind of cool if this old radio came to life again.
I also have the following that may provide parts, to use on the B model I have, or trade or … if you have a need for something.
1. R-1051G Ser: A453 Mfr:98738 This G model is in tough shape. RF Amplifier A2 is missing, The 6-pack and other modules are present. The underside is in a sad state though. Pieces loose, the MHz control switch was hanging by the ribbon cable. Might be useable though. This is most likely a donor rig.
1. T-827H/URT Ser: A 612 Mfr: 98738 The exciter actually looks pretty good, however the modules, cards, in the 6-pack position are gone. The underside looks intact at first glance. The RF module is labeled A4, so I gather it is different than the A2 one in the B receiver.
Anyway, I’ve been following the group for a while, and finally have something to ask about. I can take pictures, what do you all do with respect to pictures in this group?
Thanks ahead of time, any advice welcome,
Mark K7MD
