[R-1051] Six pack attack

All this brings up the question, is there any radio the Gene doesn't have? I got the GRC-106 for high power in the mutt but the biggest radios in the shack are my RF-350K and Harris URC-94(RF-280) and they are both 100 watts. When operating thigs on 60 meters like M$S net that's fine but started doing nets like MMRCA net on 40 and a lot of those guys come in with huge signals so been kicking around the idea of an amplifier and the fan noise of the URT-23 may be an issue, would not think of running something like the 106 amplifier in the shack because of the noise.
May try to find a Harris RF-355 or maybe a 353 if I can find one that's signal phase but that's a challenge. Have a 5kW three phase generator but the thought of having to go crank that up before a QSO is a bit much.

Personally, I really love the URT-23 despite the excessive fan noise. I've owned a few in the last 20 (or more) years. Not really sure why I love them so much. Maybe the way they look. I've spent countless hours debugging and repairing them and enjoyed that activity. I've used them with T-827s and RF-1310s. I have one right now in the shack and I have a solid state (FET) version of the RF-110A called the RF-1110B with 1310 etc. The 1110B need some work but I am encourage that it will be less noisy.

I have options to pick up a URT-23 transmitter with that exciter and the antenna coupler, the signal phase one no less. But I would have to trade my first born and have to wonder if it would be worth it. One thing I do have and like playing around with is the Harris Navy version of the RF-590 receiver and if I can come across the Harris exciter that matches that receiver may have to reconsider. But fortunately don't have any line on the exciter!

I should add the T-827 is a great little 1/4 watt exciter. But that is one heck of a lot of power for a 1/4 watt. I have a SC-901 transceiver and it works great but adding a larger amplifier chain is silly. (Not that hard to do but with multiple 100 watt transceivers no reason to do it) Regards Paul
