IF alignment is almost never the answer, unless someone else has gone in and messed it up first. Have seen more damage done by people playing around with slugs then don't know what. At least that's my opinion.

Subject: [R-1051] R-1051 IF alignment - advice?
If you are tired of my 1051-newbie questions, just hit delete. At least we're exercising the listserver.
I'm now working on an R-1051. One IF/AF module has considerably more gain than 3 others that I have. The others vary but have noticeably lower gain.
OK maybe the IF needs aligning.
Q. So how do you adjust those coils? - my screw-slugs are either varnished in place or have heat-shrink plastic holding them. I tried just turning that shallow slot and crumbled a little ferrite without much success turning. Uh-oh. figured I'd stop and ask the Big Boys for experienced advice.
Or am I barking up the wrong tree here and the more likely problem is a leaky cap or somethin'?
Thanks for your patience and advice,
Nick England K4NYW
