[R-1051] diagnosing dead bands

Greetings.

After tackling an R-390A restoration, next on the list is a R1051B. I 
have manuals and a few web sites for reference.  Tried to search the 
R1051 archives, but this is only available manually, it seems.

Question: my receiver is dead below 8MHz.  No output from speaker. If I 
just slightly move the MHz knob, I can hear hiss.   Is there a common 
mechanical alignment issue that I might check first?

Took cover off RF module and marveled at the rotating drum mechanism.  
Wondering if the issue might simply be misaligned contacts...
