[R-1051] Newbie: flashing dial lights

Symptom, not an error code. I'd look at your main voltage regulator for the hum issue. For the bright/dim issue, I'd look for a weak connection or intermittent heavy load on the unregulated input to the regulator. (The lamps are not regulated.) Come to think of it, monitor your mains voltage too.

Subject: [R-1051] Newbie: flashing dial lights

Hi Guys,
Picked up an R-1051B over the weekend. I've heard of these but had never seen one
in person. Its quite a radio! With a bit of work, and replacing a couple of obviously
bad parts (caps), I powered it up and it works. Quite well actually but the mode
switch needs to be cleaned.

I've noticed two things. After its been on for a while, the dial lights will flash (actually
they will toggle between bright and dim) for a while, then go bright. The same pattern
repeats on a regular basis. The radio works fine either way. Is this behavior a symptom
of a problem, error code or is it just haunted?

I'm getting a significant amount of AC hum when I turn up the volume. Both plug
in filter caps check good (leakage and value). No flourescent light on or other
interference....generated in the radio. Suggestions? Thanks!
