[R-1051] Compatible Modules

General Dynamics seems to have built the 1MC module around the motor. I applaud your inventive workaround; as far as I'm concerned, you corrected the original design.
Unless you're determined to avoid electronics troubleshooting, I urge you to stick with your six-pack instead of shipping in a replacement. We can help you track down whatever problems it might have.
For starters, check the signals from the Frequency Standard. If they're not all sufficient amplitude and on-frequency, the rest of the six-pack is going to be executing gibberish. You may have to temporarily tack in some wires to bring the signals out. Do it on the Spectrum Generator board.
A common Frequency Standard problem is oven failure. This can be fixed, but it only puts you somewhat off-frequency. More importantly in the short term, there are also several divider and multiplier circuits, which all have to work or the rest of the six-pack won't see all the signals it needs to work.

This is what i ended up doing on the radio yesterday. It was VERY difficult to get the crystal selector motor out of the frame so I did two things. I had just spun the motor to get it working again on the ohm meter and felt this was only a temporary fix so I took the brushes out and cleaned the motor commutator with 90% isopropyl alcohol and the brushes I very gently wiped with a Q tip. The next thing I did is probably considered a sin against the 1051. It was very difficult to remove the motor mounting plate with the motor from the crystal assembly without stressing the wiring so I took my dremel took and cut a slot in the motor mount. Now I can slip the motor back into its approximate position w/o stressing any wiring and then slip the motor mount bk in and bolt the assembly back together with no problems. I hate to make changes but I've got fat fingers and poor vision. An old age thing.

> Thanks Dave. I just started to work abt 3 - 4 days ago. Hopefully the only problem is the one i've found so far. The A2A6A1 module motor is not operating in the 1mhz unit. Since it is not turning the rotary switch that changes the crystals for the different frequencies the 20vdc never comes on line and fires up the receiver. I've got the module out right now and the brushes in the motor read open on the ohm meter. I took the motor apart spun the motor shaft and they now show a resistance. that may be all that was needed - I hope. This radio had been siting in a shed for a LOOONNNGGG time. The schematics for this radio are terrible..... i guess because it was a hybrid and the people who prepared the manual were use to tubes.... Anyway thanks for the info.
