Steve,
Thank you and everyone else for all the tips on this receiver. I am going to
have to down load a R-1051B Service Manual so I can see where everything is
located. I think that I have found a place where I can down load the manual.
I will do that and try some of these suggestions. I would really like to get
this jewel going. It works so good on the 3 MHz band and sounds really good
on SSB on 80 meters. It looks to be in great shape. There is a sicker on the
inside chassis that says serviced at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in December
1979.

Are you sure that the coupling wheels are mated between the main fraim and
the modules? There is a tang between the wheels that bond the movement.
Other things are relay problems and gummed motors as was mentioned. The
megacycle synthesizer module has a motor that seems to gum easier than the
turret motor. I have tested these motors by desoldering the motor leads and
then hooking up an external 20v dc to see if the motors work. More times
than not, it is the relays. I have fixed the relays by tapping voltage to
the coils until they start clicking again. The motors are repairable if one
is brave enough to pull the guts. The down gearing in the motors gets
complex. but it's not rocket science. When reassembling the internal motor
gears, they can be tacked in place with grease. Extracting the megacycle
motor for repairs is scary, but easier than pocket watch repair .hi Steve
