I suppose you could always call it "Vanilla", or "Original", although
I hope never to see an R-1051-Extra-Crispy or -Chocolate.
I could be wrong, but I suspect _strongly_ that the switch is there to
prevent "undesired or compromising emanations". I haven't seen any
data on how loud the R-1051 is when it's powered-up outside its case,
but it might be an interesting project for someone with the right set
of gear.
If you're out in the middle of the ocean, radio-silent, you _don't_
want someone opening up anything that could radiate enough to let
someone find you. Remember how, in his book _Spycatcher_, Peter Wright
told of catching spies by DFing on the IFs or LOs of their superhet
receivers, and of listening to the data on the IFs?
