There is an easier way that is usually successful. You can fix a 1051 if
you have a spare set of known good modules to swap in and out until you
identify the offending unit. Then it is just a matter of replacing the bad
unit.
Board level repair is just what you suspect, very difficult and best left to
the experts.
I have a very nice "H" model that works great and if it ever crumps, I guess
I'll have to eat my words and get into it to see if I can fix it.
