Hmmmm. That's a good point. The R-834 (rx for the A version) was
equivalent to the 1051B over the plain. Buththe alphabet stopped there, and
curiously, many of the manuals cover both.

Yup. I think you can BFO tune LSB on the GRC-106x, but it's not the same.

Could it be a cheap gimmick of some kind?
