Just a heads up on the QRP-ARCI FDIM Radio Show and Tell. It's FRIDAY
and it's FREE so invite all your friends - 8 PM - Holiday Inn at
Fairborn, Dayton, Ohio
Perhaps this one got by you. This year the "construction contest" will
be replaced by the Radio Show and Tell and it will be on FRIDAY evening
concurrent with vendor night (8 PM). It should be a wild affair. There
will be no categories such as Kit Built, Homebrew, Antenna, etc.
Instead you bring your entry and it all goes into a RADIO "OPEN" sort of
like the British OPEN in golf!
The judges will roam the room all evening taking notes, in fact, you may
not even know who the judges are. At the end, they will meet and make
their award decision. Winners will be announced at the banquet on
Saturday night but....
here is the idea, you will have plenty of time to look at the entries as
they are being judged. Please DO NOT try to influence the judges. In
the past, it was a rush to see all the stuff after the banquet on Saturday.
And here is the good part - we want you to bring an entry BUT if you
don't wish to be judged, you tell the coordinator at the door - "This is
a non-competitive display". You will be given a different colored tent
card so indicating. So there is no reason for you to NOT bring a whole
bag of QRP rigs/gadgets/etc. They may even have won in the past or be
10 years old/shown at other QRP events. NOTE: only "never before shown
at FDIM projects" may be entered in the competitive division. We'd like
for you to have a sheet of paper or placard describing all displays and
hang around to TELL at least for part of the evening.
Lastly, each person coming to the Radio Show and Tell will be given a
ballot to cast for People's Choice award. And your project might win,
even if you're NOT in the competition!
So dig out those interesting projects or start now to build a new one -
altoids, keyers, keys, rigs, regens, tube sets, antenna launchers, LED
lights.... Come on you must have something to SHOW and TELL about.
Come, have fun, and make this the best RADIO SHOW (and TELL) ever!!!
And if you haven't registered for FDIM, pls come to: fdim.qrparci.org
